Curzon Buy UK Rights To Owen Kline’s Funny Pages

This week saw A24 Films release the American Trailer for Owen Kline‘s deliciously dark Funny Pages. The film has picked up some great buzz since it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
The film is the directorial feature debut for Kline, with Josh and Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, Good Time) producing. There is also the small matter that his parents are Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates.
Kline made his acting debut in Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale (2005). Playing Jesse Eisenberg‘s younger brother, Funny Pages looks to follow it’s indie roots. If you are looking the alternative comic book film like Ghost World, American Splendour, check this one out.
Funny Pages is a bitingly funny coming-of-age story of a teenage cartoonist who rejects the comforts of his suburban life in a misguided quest for soul.
Curzon haven’t released an UK version of the Trailer, here’s a look at the American version.
Daniel Zolghadri plays Robert, a 17-year-old aspiring cartoonist from a respectable middle-class family in the Ivy-league town of Princeton, whose obsession with comics finds him relocating to a scuzzy apartment in Trenton, New Jersey and dropping out of high school to devote himself to his art. He splits his time between jobs at the local comic bookstore, where he and his equally cartoon-obsessed friend Miles also hang out, and at the office of a public defender. It is there that he first encounters Wallace (Matthew Maher), a former colour separator for the legendary Image Comics. Blind to the man’s near-psychotic personality – he displays barely hidden incel qualities – Robert becomes determined to learn as much as he can from him.
The film also stars Matthew Maher, Miles Emanuel, Maria Dizzia, and Josh Pais. Curzon are set to release Funny Pages in UK and Irish cinemas next to Curzon Home Cinema from 16th September.
