DVD Review: The Three Musketeers

THE THREE MUSKETEERS

This latest interpretation of the Three Musketeers story comes from director Paul W.S Anderson, best known for the Resident Evil franchise and 2004’s AVP: Alien vs. Predator.
The plot sees a young man, D’Artagnan, travel to Paris to the Muskateers – Porthos, Athos and Aramis. After winning them round in his quest to them the four set off to prevent a war occurring between England and .
The film has a large cast, including Matthew Macfadyen, Logan Lerman, Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich and Christoph Waltz. However I felt Jovovich was slightly miscast, being used to seeing her in mainly sci-fi and horror films she seemed out of place here.
Although The Three Musketeers was a pleasant enough watch, it suffered from a poor script and too many sub-plots. With so many things going on our three ‘heroes’ got a bit lost underneath everything else. They were not the focus of most of the film, with a few too many scenes being shared between Jovovich and Waltz.
As for the action, the air battle fails to make much of an impact. I have a feeling this would have been a selling point for promoting the 3D version.
The ending makes very suggestive hints towards a future sequel, but will anyone care?
