After making it’s world premiere at Sundance Film Festival, Edgar Wright‘s Doc The Sparks Brothers now has a official UK Trailer. If you’re not a fan of Sparks already, you will be.

One of my all time favourite bands is Fishbone. They are different musical style from Sparks but highly underrated with many people now starting to appreciate how influential they are on the genre. Fishbone have  doing it for  42 years, Sparks 50 years,25 albums and 345 songs the criminally underrated band will get the praise they truly deserve…

Fortunately I knew about Sparks but not all their music, this doc looks fascinating even if you’re not a fan!

How can one rock band be successful, underrated, hugely influential, and criminally overlooked all at the same time? Take a musical odyssey through five weird and wonderful decades with brothers Ron and Russell Mael, celebrating the inspiring legacy of Sparks: your favourite band’s favourite band.

There aren’t many bands who arrive at their 50th anniversary on a creative roll, still luring in new generations of fans, making Top 10 albums, and doing so by releasing music every bit as challenging and inventive as their earliest recordings. In fact, there is precisely one: Sparks.

Ron and Russell Mael are rock’s original Odd Couple, as inscrutable as they are fascinating. Never content to rest on their laurels or follow musical trends, they have achieved commercial success only intermittently, and almost despite themselves. Edgar Wright’s music documentary THE SPARKS BROTHERS captures the art-pop pioneers at an improbable late career high, as well as recounting the story of how they got there, asking why they are not as celebrated as they deserve to be, and finding out how they became your favourite band’s favourite band.

Featured in the documentary are noted Sparks irers and collaborators such as Beck, Vince Clarke and Andy Bell, Chris Difford,  Alex Kapranos , Nick Rhodes , John Taylor , Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert , Nick Heyward, Bjork, Flea, Bernard Butler, Martyn Ware,  Roddy Bottum, Jane Wiedlin, Steve Jones,  ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, Mike Myers, Thurston Moore. Along with  Todd Rundgren, Muff Winwood, Tony Visconti, Giorgio Moroder and James Lowe, and several Sparks band past and present.

Last week we learned The Sparks Brothers will open this years Sundance London Film Festival. The day will be 29th July and on the 30th July the film will be released in select UK cinemas.
