Gillian Anderson And Jason Isaacs To Star In The Salt Path
Marianne Elliott to direct the UK drama based on Raynor Winn’s Best Selling book
Gillian Anderson and Jason Issacs are set to star in UK drama, The Salt Path.
The film project will be based on Raynor Winn‘s global bestselling memoir of the same name. It will also mark the big screen directorial feature debut for Tony and Olivier award-winning theatre director Marianne Elliott (Company, War Horse).
Principal photography will begin in early June, and the film will be adapted by BAFTA award nominee Rebecca Lenkiewicz (She Said, Small Axe).
The Salt Path is the profound true story of husband and wife, Raynor and Moth Winn’s 630-mile trek along the beautiful but rugged Cornish, Devon and Dorset coastline. After being forcibly removed from their home, they make the desperate decision to keep walking in the hope that, in nature, they will find solace and a sense of acceptance. With depleted resources and only a tent and the bare essentials between them, every step along the path is a testament to their growing strength and determination. The Salt Path is a journey that is exhilarating, challenging, and liberating in equal measure. A portrayal of home and how it can be lost and rediscovered in the most unexpected ways.
The film is produced by Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley for Number 9 Films (Living, Carol) and Lloyd Levin and Beatriz Levin for Shadowplay Features (The Mauritanian, Da 5 Bloods). Executive producers are Chris Harper and Nick Sidi for Elliott & Harper Productions (Company, Death of a Salesman), Kristin Irving (Club Zero, Rye Lane) for BBC Film, Norman Merry and Peter Hampden (Typist Artist Pirate King, Living) for LipSync Productions and Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science (Living, All Quiet on the Western Front).
The film was developed with from BBC Film and financed by BBC Film and Lipsync.
Rocket Science are handling worldwide sales and will launch the project at the Cannes market. Black Bear Pictures will distribute in the UK. Other territories sold include Australia, New Zealand (Transmission), (DCM), Benelux (The Searchers), The Film Group (Greece) and Cinesky (Airlines).
