Deadline is reporting that Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in a new film from director M. Night Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks.

Sources are saying that Jake Gyllenhaal will star in a new supernatural romantic thriller which is based on an original story co-created by M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan will write the story as a screenplay and Sparks as a novel. Both products will be based on the same original love story.

Shyamalan and Sparks are an interesting team up with both having mastered their own respective but very different niches. Shyamalan is best know for working in the science fiction and thriller genres, and is infamous for his films often featuring some kind of twist. Some of his features include The Sixth Sense, Split, OldKnock at the Cabin, and Trap.

Sparks on the other-hand is best known for his romantic drama novels. Sparks is a blockbuster writer, with all of his books having been New York Times best-sellers. He has sold over 130 million copies sold worldwide. Many of Sparks’ books have also been adapted into Hollywood films including A Walk to , The Notebook and The Last Song.

Gyllenhaal’s attachment to the project follows his recent roles in Road House for Amazon MGM Studios and Presumed Innocent for Apple TV+. He will next be seen on Broadway alongside Denzel Washington in an adaptation of Othello. The film will be produced by Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures alongside Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock. Discussions are currently underway with Warner Brothers for theatrical release.
