James Gunn Shares First Look Of Milly Alcock As Supergirl

Supergirl is the woman of tomorrow

Whilst fans eagerly await the release of Superman later this year, filmmaker James Gunn has already teased what the future of the DCU will look like, with the first look of actress Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

Gunn took to X to share a mysterious but intriguing photo of Alcock (House of the Dragon) in the lead role.

Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El.” Gunn commented, expressing his excitement for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. You can see the full tweet on Gunn’s X page: @JamesGunn. To those paying a close eye, Gunn’s delight should come as no surprise, as he has previously mentioned the actress as his first choice for the character.

The film will follow Superman, the first of Gunn’s DCU, with the filmmaker tackling production on both releases. Whilst Gunn will also be directing Superman, he has handed over that responsibility to Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) for Woman of Tomorrow.

Although little more has been confirmed, fans can expect to see famous characters like Clayface, Swamp Thing, the Teen Titans, Bane, and Deathstroke in the franchise’s future. Despite the resounding success of Matt Reeves’ franchise, Gunn has also confirmed his plans for a certain Caped Crusader.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is currently filming, and it is expected to be released in the United States on June 26, 2026. This will leave just under a year for audiences to catch Superman, which will be released in the US on July 11, 2025.
