Linda Cardellini to play Pamela Voorhees in A24’s “Crystal Lake”
After some speculation, Linda Cardellini has officially been cast as Pamela Voorhees in A24’s Crystal Lake, Deadline reports.
A prequel series to the horror classic Friday the 13th, the infamous Mrs Voorhees will play a pivotal role as “a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child.” That child in question, of course, is the infamous Jason, a staple of the slasher subgenre. Jason will also feature in Crystal Lake, which has been described as an “expanded prequel” to the film franchise.
Betsy Palmer played Pamela Voorhees in the original film and was revealed to be its primary antagonist. She sought murderous revenge for Jason’s drowning, and so the dark twists and turns in Crystal Lake could add a further layer to the character. Cardellini (Scooby-Doo, The Curse of La Llorona) has plenty to delve into.
The Emmy nominee has been busy with various film and TV performances. Notably starring in Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Cardellini has established herself within the MCU and Crystal Lake will add another blockbuster franchise to her already superb filmography.
No official release date has been confirmed, but with this major casting now official, more updates should follow soon. With A24 and original writer Victor Miller at the production helm, fans of the franchise will be eager for development.
