Marcus Markou’s The Wife And Her House Husband Starts Filming

The Wife And Her House Husband

Papadopolous & Sons director Marcus Markou’s next feature film The Wife And Her House Husband has commenced shooting. The UK indie is a two-hander starring Laurence Spellman (Ready Player One, Fury) and Laura Bayston (Killing Eve, Hungry Joe).

The film tells the story of a couple, Cassie (Laura Bayston) and Matthew (Laurence Spellman)who are going through the last stages of a painful divorce. At their final mediation session, Cassie produces a letter, written thirty years before to their future selves, entitled “In the event of any future separation”. The letter states that if they should ever split, they will firstly follow a list of instructions they compiled during the early days of dating.

The Wife And Her House Husband tells the story of a couple falling back in love during a divorce. The film is a modern exploration of marriage, gender roles and what it means to stay in love.

Filming is underway on location in London, concluding in mid-July, and the film is produced by Muireann Price (Love me till Monday, Captain Webb) for Double M Films.

The films writer and director Markou said: “Whilst we know it’s been a tough time for the industry, for independent movies it’s been almost impossible given the extra overheads and restrictions. However, I think we’re proving that low budget indies can be made in this environment and even thrive. It does require more planning and more thought. But it can be done.”

Producer Muireann Price also commented: “Having had to postpone twice since last year due to Covid, it’s even more amazing to be finally up and running. We are lucky to be ed by such a dedicated and talented crew, many of whom we worked with on our last film Office Song. It takes a special pairing to lead such an intense two-hander. With Laurence and Laura, we have two hugely exciting actors, whose talent, commitment and stamina are a real honour to witness, as they bring this beautiful yet heart breaking story to life.”
