MUBI Set To Release Aki Kaurismäki Fallen Leaves in UK Cinemas


Earlier today The BFI unveiled it’s 67th London Film Festival which Aki Kaurismäki ‘s Fallen Leaves will be part of. Not everyone will make London, and Boutique distributor and streaming service MUBI understand this and they will bring the film to UK and Irish cinemas.
The film is set to be release in the UK and Irish cinemas from December (a month before in the U.S) and to celebrate the news, MUBI have released a short teaser trailer.
The film is described as Kaurismãki‘s timeless, hopeful and ultimately satisfying love story about two lonely souls’ path to happiness. The film stars Alma Pöysti and Jussi Vatanen as our lonely souls who have to jump over many hurdles to finally meet at a local karaoke.
Possibly the most famous of all the Finnish filmmakers next to Jalmari Herlander (Sisu). Making films for 40 years and his deadpan sense of humour which could be described as absurd. His films can be described also as minimalist Shakespearean tragedy .

Set in modern day Helsinki, Fallen Leaves tells the story of Ansa (Alma Pöysti) and Holappa (Jussi Vatanen), two lonely souls whose chance meeting at a local karaoke bar is beset by numerous hurdles. From lost phone numbers to mistaken addresses, alcoholism and a charming stray dog, the pair’s path to happiness is as bittersweet as it is ultimately delightful.
Shot through with Kaurismäki’s typically playful, idiosyncratic style and deadpan sense of humor, this tender romantic tragicomedy is both a loving tribute to the filmmaker’s beloved contemporaries and a timely reminder of the potency of movie-going from one of cinema’s living legends. .
Fallen Leaves Leaves will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas from 1st December, then stream exclusively on MUBI in 2024.
