Quentin Dupieux’s Farcical Smoking Causes Coughing Gets A UK Trailer

The past 10 plus years we’ve been bombarded with superhero films, many good films others not. In a few week Picturehouse Entertainment will release Smoking Causes Coughing and we get a look at the new farcical UK Trailer.
The film comes from the twisted of Quentin Dupieux who gave us killer wheels in Rubber, terror in Mandibles. This times it’s a satirical poke at superhero genre and these ‘superheroes’ are like The Power Rangers. All of the group are named after parts that make up cigarettes aka known as the Tobacco Force.
The force is made up of five heroes – Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anaïs Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra). After loosing to a Giant Turtle the team are sent to a remote retreat to regroup and come back stronger. The retreat is interrupted when Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth. Can the team work together to defeat Lézardin?
If you love Dupieux‘s previous films, you’ll love this one. I watched it at Glasgow Film Festival back in March, possibly my favourite of his filmography. You get a glimpse of all the teams powers as much as the humour, John Waters has endorsed this, need I say more?
After a devastating battle against a diabolical turtle, a team of five avengers – known as the TOBACCO FORCE – is sent on a mandatory retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their break goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth… But will they repair their relationship in time for a final epic battle?
From visionary director Quentin Dupieux (Rubber, Deerskin) comes an absurd and darkly hilarious superhero movie unlike any other.
The film also stars Adèle Exarchopoulos. Smoking Causes Coughing will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 7th July.
