Wilst alot of movies got remade, prequeled or rebooted there was also alot of movie projects that got abandoned for various reasons and one was Danny Boyle’s The Texas Killing Fields. Well the movie has just got his new lease of life thanks to Michael Mann who will produce the movie whilst his daughter Ami Mann will direct the movie.
With a new lease of life always comes with some changes, first of all the movie will now be THE FIELDS and the movies leadstar is changing as well. The original project had Bradley Cooper as the man but now sources say Sam Worthington is now the main “mann”.This is simply
Slashfilm have stated from there sources Variety that the script for the new movie will be the Donald F. Ferrarone’s script and Michael Mann himself has went onto say to Deadline Hollywood that Sam Worthington –
“will play Jake, this tough-minded misanthropic Texan, who with his partner Brian wind up waging something of a war against these unknown assailants, a ferocious battle to save each other and the life of this young street kid.” –(1).
This was just one of the few other insights into the project Danny Boyle labelled ’so dark it would never get made’.
With the story based on 2 dectectives investigating unsolved murders in the Bayou, Louisana area over a 30 year span where in fields scores of dead bodies have been found in. This project is not actually new to Michael Mann as he met screenwriter Ferrarone many years ago based on stories he heard and with Ferrarone been a former DEA agent making him the ideal writer for the movie.
‘It’s a brilliant screenplay, filled with things you cannot make up in Hollywood, things you would have had to find the dead bodies in a heroin operation to understand. That’s why it’s such a haunting piece. This is such a spooky zone in Texas where cell phones don’t work, where the homes sit on trailer stilts, and where there’s a hand-painted sign on the bridge that reads, `You Are Now Entering the Cruel World’. – (2)
The movie is in pre-production with possible filming starting in early April this year
