Many critics loved Denis Villeneuve‘s 2015 Oscar-nominated Sicario, it also divided opinion especially on the way Emily Blunt‘s character was treated. When we believed she was the lead role, thing suddenly unravelled she was nothing more than a patsy for something deeper. 2018 the sequel will be released, Sicario 2: Soldado and today we get a look at the movie’s first UK Trailer. What we see is things are still unfinished from the first movie and everyone is at war with each other
In Sicario 2: Soldado, the drug war on the US – Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) reteams with the mercurial Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro).
Since Sicario was released U.S.A has changed presidents but has the nation’s foreign policy changed? Probably not. Whilst Trump’s determination to build a ‘wall’ to keep out ‘unwelcomed guests’ you could assume the foreign policy morality is non-existent.
Was Emily Blunt‘s character used an analogy that the world she entered was solely a ‘Man’s World’ and she was not ‘welcomed’? Whatever you believed, the movie highlighted the world had no room for naivety or empathy. Was it a missed opportunity to deliver a strong female character could handle herself in the world?
Roger Deakins has not returned too but the imagery and use of colour look fantastic. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin return with the movie looking to unearth more of their backstory (especially Del Toro).
Sicario 2: Soldado is set for a Summer 2018 UK and Irish cinema release date(possibly June or July). The movie also stars Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Catherine Keener and Matthew Modine.
