Sunday Short Theatre – Deadlock (2021)

What if Christopher Nolan made a gritty, grounded Ghostbusters, what would it look like? We may never get an exact answer however this week’s Sunday Theatre choice Deadlock might give us an indication what it might look like!
This week’s film comes from Aqsa Altaf and John X. Carey who have created, written, produced and directed this sci-fi short film. Delivering an already existing in a different can be intriguing at the same time and Altaf and Carey have their own vision for the cult franchise for the 1980’s franchise. Rather than saying they have for Nolan style look is a little naughty if anything this is an homage to Ghostbusters.
A slick 20 plus minute short film that actually reflects something from the real world, peoples relationship with the police. A nice little stylish worldbuilding , amazingly with the story type this is not one bogged down with VFX either.
In this film we find our protagonists have captured an ‘supernatural threat’ but outside their station there’s mob protestors. Protesting against the governments stance of capturing and imprisoning all ghosts and they maybe considered all as ‘criminals’ Things kick off big style when a brother of one the captured confronts the officers.
We love the new approach towards ghost stories, check it out…
A gritty Ghostbusters set in a world where the living have imprisoned the spirits of the dead in a server facility called Deadlock. The story tracks the lives of those affected by the mismanagement of the afterlife.
The short film stars Joey Auzenne, Langston Fishburne, Jenna Qureshi, Brandon Scales, and Christopher Newman.
