Have Warner Bros Revealed The Difference Between Live Action & Anime Versions Of AKIRA?

 

This is just seems to get worse every time we get new news on the project and if your a hardcore fan of  Akira be it anime or the manga you probably wont like what’s been found. Let’s be honest however close to the original anime story this live action version was going to have changes but how drastic a change there going to be is the worrying factor for the loyal fanbase. Bleeding Cool have been able to get their hands on what looks like to be the possible synopsis, Here’s what they found:

Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel. Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.

Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo’s mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel’s troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

Kaneda A bar owner? Your having a giraffe?! When you at the above plot its actually not far off the original plot but I’m sure the writer could come up with something a little more original Kaneda, Kei, Tetsuo are all actually of high school possibly college age  so if Kaneda is to be a barman which means he’ll drastically age possible around 10 years. How much though of Neo Manhattan will be similar to Neo Tokyo we don’t know yet as with the casting either as the names already mentioned Jaume Collet-Serra has not confirmed any casting. If there’s a shred of truth in the current names been linked Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe, Helena Boham Carter we’ll just have to wait and see. If the latest gossip is true Gary Oldman has turned the role as The Colonel would make way for Watanabe  who at this stage is the only Asian actor been linked but would Warner use Asian actors only? Probably NO as they probably wouldn’t find enough well known actors from Asia  known or even big enough to attract big box office. So like the previous gossip for the film regard all news as rumours, until the day we hear the director say action and we see the actors on set then we’ll look at Akira with a sense of truth.
