Watch UK/Irish Trailer For Irish Famine Revenger Black 47

Black 47 (2018)

We hear about The Great Irish Famine in songs and stories rarely do we see a feature film. In September that will all change when Black 47 will be released by Wildcard Distribution and Altitude Films.

Today they released the official Irish/UK Trailer starring James Frecheville and Hugo Weaving. The gritty film of a hardened Ranger (played by Frecheville), one time fighting for the British who abandons his post to fight against the British oppression and famine.

The film premiered away back at this year’s Berlin Film festival and has toured around the world including opening galas at Dublin and Belfast. Will be interesting to see how the British media react to this film…

It’s 1847 and Ireland is in the grip of the Great Famine that has ravaged the country for two long years. Feeney, a hardened Irish Ranger who has been fighting for the British Army abroad, abandons his post to return home and reunite with his family. He’s seen more than his share of horrors, but nothing prepares him for the famine’s hopeless destruction of his homeland that has brutalised his people and where there seems to be no law and order. He discovers his mother starved to death and his brother hanged by the brutal hand of the English. With little else to live for, he sets a destructive path to avenge his family.

The film stars Jim Broadbent, Stephen Rea (The Crying Game, Michael Collins). ing them are rising international actors Freddie Fox (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) along with a strong young Irish cast including Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Moe Dunford (Michael Inside, Patrick’s Day) and Sarah Greene (Noble, Penny Dreadful).

Black 47 will be released firstly in Ireland from 5th September, with the UK release 28th September.
