Considered a tale too wild for Hollywood, Blue Finch Film Releasing, Once Upon Time In Uganda will be heading to UK Cinemas in September, check out the official trailer below.
As we all know film is universally loved. We may look West and to Tinseltown for our cinematic fix, Uganda might be another to some people. This fascinating documentary focuses on young Ugandan filmmaker Isaac Nabwana, someone who created 47 movies. Some called him Africa’s Tarantino, sharing his love for those 1980’s action movies from the likes of Chuck Norris. This film showcases his rise that would create Wakaliwood pushing it onto the international market.

Set in the heart of Uganda, two unlikely friends from opposite sides of the world unite over their shared love of Chuck Norris and gonzo 80s action flicks. With sheer determination and an outrageous sense of humour, they team up to create their own explosive movies, catapulting Wakaliwood to international stardom and bringing laughter and joy to millions. This documentary is a wild ride where you can definitely ‘expect the unexpectable’.
Directed by Cathryne Czubek, Once Upon a Time in Uganda documents the explosive rise of an outrageous new genre of action cinema that has captured the imagination of film fans around the world. Once Upon A Time in Uganda was nominated for SXSW 2020’s Grand Jury Award and won the Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC 2021, before screening at the Glasgow Film Festival in 2022.
Once Upon A Time in Uganda is in UK and Irish (Odeon Cinemas chain) cinemas from 5th September.
