Based on the 1925 novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, sometimes hailed as The Great American Novel, the story follows wannabe stock-broker-slash-writer Nick (Tobey Maguire) and his fascination with his neighbour, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) – a mysterious millionaire who throws flamboyant parties for the New York elite. Set in Long Island, the novel captured the scandal and intrigue of the Roaring Twenties in New York, as well as the fun and glamour of the Jazz Age – a phrase coined by Fitzgerald for this very book.
